2027: Bala Mohammed speaks on joint ticket with Makinde

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has suggested that he and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde could form an ideal ticket if they were paired for the 2027 presidential election.

Mohammed made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, addressing speculations about him running as Makinde’s vice-presidential candidate.

He emphasized the importance of religious and regional balance in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.

According to Mohammed, the PDP should present a Christian candidate from the South for president and a Muslim from the North as running mate to reflect Nigeria’s diversity.

He said “It depends on what Nigerians want. If they want the continuation of this clueless administration, then it is the choice of Nigerians,”

He added: “Seyi Makinde-Bala Mohammed ticket can match even better… Nigerians have seen the pedigree and capacity of Seyi and my humble self at the subnational level. There are many people who could be considered, but if this option is offered, it should be given a fair chance.”

Mohammed criticized the approach of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, which produced a Muslim-Muslim ticket that, in his view, did not fully consider Nigeria’s religious and regional diversity.

He added that the PDP remains open and inclusive in its selection process, leaving room for southern Christians to emerge as presidential candidates, ensuring balance and representation when choosing a northern Muslim vice president.
