BREAKING: PDP confirms substantive national chairman, zones 2027 presidential ticket

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as its substantive national chairman, after serving in an acting capacity for over a year.

The decision was ratified on Monday during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

In the same session, the party zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 election to the southern region.

Damagum has led the party since March 2023, following the suspension and eventual resignation of former national chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

His confirmation positions him to steer the PDP ahead of its national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected.
