Yobe Student Nafisa Aminu emerges world best in English at Global TeenEagle competition

A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, has been named the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle International Competition held in London.

Nafisa, who represented Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC), beat over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries—including native English-speaking nations—to clinch the top spot at the prestigious global contest.

TeenEagle is a world-renowned academic competition that tests students in English proficiency, critical thinking, and public speaking. The 2025 edition saw participation from students across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

Speaking after the announcement, Nafisa’s family described her win as a result of “discipline, hard work, and divine favour.” In a statement released by family head, Hassan Salifu, the family also commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for fostering a supportive educational environment in the state.

“Our daughter’s global triumph is not just a personal victory, but a proud moment for Yobe and Nigeria. We are grateful to Governor Buni for his commitment to education, which created the foundation for this success,” the statement read.

Observers have hailed Nafisa’s win as a remarkable achievement, especially given the competitive nature of the event and the dominance of native English speakers in previous editions.

Her victory has sparked celebrations in her home state and across Nigeria, with education stakeholders calling for national recognition.

Educational experts said Nafisa’s performance highlights the potential of Nigerian students when given the right tools and opportunities.
