Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has become the first African artist to surpass 9 billion streams across all credits on Spotify, marking a major milestone in his career and for the African music industry.

The record-breaking feat is largely driven by his global hit One Dance, a collaboration with Drake and Kyla, which has amassed an astonishing 3.7 billion streams. The song ranks among the top 10 most streamed tracks in Spotify history and holds a Guinness World Record as the first song to cross 1 billion streams on the platform.

Wizkid’s most streamed lead single is Essence, featuring Nigerian singer Tems, with over 303 million streams. The song became a global sensation, earning widespread acclaim and further propelling Afrobeats onto the world stage.

Despite Wizkid’s groundbreaking success, American pop star Taylor Swift remains the most streamed artist on Spotify, with over 1.5 billion streams to her name.

Wizkid’s latest achievement highlights the rising global influence of Afrobeats and positions him as one of the most streamed and celebrated artists of his generation.
