President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that he initially avoided watching the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) because he feared it might raise his blood pressure.

Speaking while hosting the victorious Super Falcons at the Aso Villa on Monday evening, Tinubu shared his emotional experience during the tense match against hosts Morocco.

“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure,” he confessed. “But people came into my room and turned on my TV to that channel.

“When it was 2–0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching.

“I was impressed by the indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage of the team.”

Nigeria pulled off a dramatic comeback to beat Morocco 3–2 in Sunday’s final in Rabat, securing their 12th WAFCON title.
