Why 90% of Nigerian men cheat – Actress Bimbo Akintola

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has said that infidelity and polygamy will continue to be part of Nigerian society.
Speaking on a podcast with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, the 55-year-old claimed that between 90 and 99 percent of Nigerian men cheat on their partners, attributing the trend to cultural and generational influences.
Akintola explained that many men grow up in environments where infidelity is normalized, often learning the behavior from their fathers or grandfathers who had multiple wives or partners.
She argued that the pattern is so deeply ingrained that expecting absolute fidelity may be unrealistic, though she stressed she was not justifying the behavior.
She said, “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity in Africa came from. Your father cheats, your grandfather cheated, my father has two wives.
“I can’t tell you whether to stay or leave but you leave this one and move to the next one, you still have the same issue. They all cheat, 90 percent of them cheat, it’s engraved in them.
“I know you might want to change them but I hear characters are fully formed when you’re seven years old. Some of them started by following their daddy to girlfriends’ house.
“I’m not excusing it don’t get me wrong, I am just being realistic when it comes to these kinds of situation.”
