We don’t recognize you – ADC tells Nafi’u Bala

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly refuted claims by Hon. Nafi’u Bala that he is now the party’s national chairman.

Bala, who previously served as the party’s Deputy National Chairman until his resignation in May 2025, made the controversial announcement during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday night. He alleged that the current leadership, led by David Mark, had illegally assumed control of the party in violation of the ADC constitution — a move he described as “political hooliganism.”

Bala further claimed that based on constitutional provisions, he had taken over as interim national chairman.

However, the ADC has dismissed his declaration, asserting that Bala no longer holds any leadership position within the party. In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC reminded the public of Bala’s resignation from the National Working Committee.

To substantiate its stance, the party shared a copy of Bala’s resignation letter dated May 17, 2025. The letter reads:

“I, Nafi’u Bala, do hereby write to notify you of my resignation as member of the National Working Committee of our great party, African Democratic Congress, with effect from 26 May, 2025.
My resignation is to make way for a smooth and effective coalition and restructuring. My resignation does not in any way mean that I am abandoning the party, so I would be ready to serve in any other capacity I may be called upon in the future.”

The ADC emphasized that Bala’s voluntary exit from the leadership structure disqualifies him from unilaterally assuming the role of chairman, interim or otherwise.
