WAEC issues fresh directive to 2025 WASSCE Candidates after technical glitch

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has advised candidates who sat for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to recheck their results on the Council’s portal within 24 hours.
The directive was issued on Thursday following the discovery of technical issues that may have affected the accuracy of the initial results published online.
In a statement signed by the Council’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, WAEC explained that a post-release review of the results revealed data errors linked to a new system introduced to combat exam malpractice.
“Candidates who have already checked their results are advised to recheck them after 24 hours,” the statement said. “WAEC remains committed to excellence, fairness, and transparency in all its assessment processes.”
The technical glitch, WAEC revealed, was connected to the recent implementation of a new innovation known as paper serialisation—a system designed to enhance exam integrity. The mechanism was applied in subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
According to the Council, some bugs were discovered in the data generated through the new system, prompting the temporary suspension of the result-checking portal to allow for corrections.
Earlier this week, WAEC announced that only 38.32% of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat the exam obtained credit passes in five core subjects, including English and Mathematics. This marked a sharp decline from the 72.12% recorded in 2024, raising concerns among parents, educators, and education stakeholders.
WAEC said the situation is being addressed urgently and assured candidates and the public that access to the corrected results would be restored shortly.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to resolve this issue promptly,” the statement concluded.
Candidates are advised to visit www.waecdirect.org after 24 hours to reconfirm their scores.
