Visit turns tragic: U.S. woman, 60, dies in Nigerian boyfriend’s house

The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old American woman, Jacqueline Bolling Elton, who died under unclear circumstances while visiting her Nigerian boyfriend in Warri.
Elton reportedly arrived in Warri on September 15, 2025, to spend time with her 39-year-old partner, Alawode Olaide, whom she had met on social media.
According to reports, she suddenly fell ill on September 29 around 3 p.m. and was rushed to a private hospital in Otokutu, near Warri. She was later referred to the Central Hospital, Warri, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.
Her remains have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary for autopsy, while Olaide has been taken into police custody for questioning.
A source disclosed that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect was in custody and that investigations were ongoing.
