Viral video: Ibom Air bans passenger indefinitely for assaulting crew

Ibom Air has placed an indefinite flight ban on a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, after she allegedly assaulted crew members on a Uyo–Lagos flight on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

According to a statement by the airline on Monday, the incident began before take-off when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated safety instructions. She complied only after the Pilot-in-Command intervened, prompting a heated verbal exchange.

Upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson allegedly attacked the Purser, tearing off her wig, removing and throwing her glasses to the floor, striking her with footwear, and slapping her several times. She also allegedly slapped another attendant who tried to intervene and attempted to seize a fire extinguisher as a weapon.

The airline said the Pilot-in-Command alerted security, and the passenger was restrained onboard until FAAN security officers arrived. Even after removal from the aircraft, she reportedly assaulted security staff and the ground supervisor before being handed over to police.

Ibom Air confirmed it has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and permanently barred Emmanson from all its flights.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy, the airline warned:

“Any violent or unruly behaviour that endangers passengers, crew, or equipment will face the strongest possible action.”
