Usyk knocks out dubois to unify heavyweight titles at Wembley

Ukrainian boxing superstar Oleksandr Usyk delivered a commanding performance on Saturday night, knocking out Britain’s Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to claim the undisputed heavyweight crown at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The emphatic victory saw Usyk extend his perfect professional record to 24 wins and add Dubois’ IBF belt to his collection of WBA, WBC, and WBO titles, further solidifying his reputation as the dominant force in modern heavyweight boxing.

Fighting in front of a raucous 90,000-strong crowd—many waving Ukrainian flags—Usyk controlled the bout from the outset. He outclassed Dubois through the first four rounds before dropping the 27-year-old Brit to the canvas early in the fifth. Moments later, Usyk ended the contest with a trademark left hook that left Dubois unable to beat the count at 1 minute and 52 seconds.

The fight marked their second meeting, with Usyk having previously stopped Dubois in the ninth round in 2023 in Krakow, Poland—a match that stirred controversy over a fifth-round low blow call against Dubois.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, former undisputed champion Lennox Lewis predicted a tougher fight for Usyk, suggesting Dubois had matured significantly since their last encounter. However, Usyk, now 38, proved once again why he is widely considered the finest heavyweight of his era.

“38 is a young guy, remember! 38 is only start!” Usyk said post-fight in an emotional interview with DAZN. “I want to say thank you to Jesus Christ, my team, Wembley—thank you so much! It’s for the people.”

When asked about future opponents, Usyk remained non-committal. “Maybe it’s Tyson Fury. Maybe we have three choices: Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua, maybe Joseph Parker. I cannot say now—I want to go home, rest, and be with my family.”

Despite the loss, Dubois vowed to bounce back. “I have to commend him on the performance, I gave everything I had. Take no credit away from that man—I’ll be back.”

The win places Usyk firmly at the top of the heavyweight division, with boxing fans now eagerly awaiting news of his next move.
