Trump’s threat sparks Kano protest- Reports
Islamic groups in Kano State have staged a street protest today against remarks by United States President Donald Trump on Nigeria’s security situation. The demonstrators expressed strong opposition to what they described as foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.
According to newsmen, the protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources,” highlighting their rejection of Trump’s claims.
The protests follow Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians. He also warned that U.S. military intervention could occur if the Nigerian government fails to address the killings of Christians.
The Nigerian government has since dismissed the allegations of a Christian genocide, describing them as false and misleading. Officials emphasized that the claims do not reflect the realities on the ground.
The demonstrations in Kano reflect broader concerns about foreign involvement in Nigeria’s internal matters, with citizens expressing their determination to defend the country’s sovereignty.
