Tinubu makes key appointments in Nigerian universities
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments to the governing councils and management teams of three federal universities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment of Mr. Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. Obih’s appointment follows the death of a former council member.
The President also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye, former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, currently chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.
He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, and replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, now Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
In Zamfara, Prof. Ibrahim Yakasai has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe. A retired Nigerian Army Colonel, Yakasai is presently Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and chairs the Committee of Provosts of Medical Colleges in Nigeria.
Other appointees to the institution include Mr. Hamisu Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Liman as Librarian.
Prof. Yakasai earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, studied in the UK under a European Economic Commission scholarship, and holds membership and fellowship titles from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He also obtained a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Winchester and completed fellowships in the United States. He has previously served as Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
