Tinubu demonstrates loyalty to Yoruba tradition — Oyo lawmaker

The lawmaker representing Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a loyal and consistent supporter of Yoruba tradition and culture.

Adeyemi made the remark while reflecting on the legacy of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, describing the monarch’s passing on April 22, 2022, as a significant and somber moment in the history of Yorubaland.

He recalled Tinubu’s visit to the Alaafin during his nationwide consultations as a presidential aspirant, shortly after engagements with then-President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. “Oyo received him with great fanfare. Kabiyesi prayed for him, and today, those prayers have manifested,” Adeyemi said.

According to him, Tinubu was on Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia when he received news of the Alaafin’s death. The future president reportedly shortened his trip, returned to Nigeria, and flew directly from Abuja to Oyo for the monarch’s 8th-day fidau prayer.

“His presence during our time of grief showed his loyalty. He stood by the Alaafin’s family and the entire kingdom,” Adeyemi noted.

He further revealed that President Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu have remained in contact with the royal household, consistently checking on the widows and children of the late monarch.

Adeyemi also praised Tinubu for his enduring relationships with other respected Yoruba figures, including the late Awujale of Ijebuland and former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Tinubu is a friend who stays true, in good times and bad. His actions are proof of his deep respect for Yoruba values,” he concluded.
