Tension rises as ASUP threatens fresh industrial action at Fed Poly Offa

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Offa chapter, has threatened to embark on a fresh industrial action over the continued decision of the institution’s Governing Council to hold meetings outside the school premises.
The union raised the alarm in a statement issued on Thursday by its branch chairman, Dr. Idowu Atilola, condemning the ongoing council meeting in Lagos and demanding its immediate cancellation.
According to the union, holding council meetings outside the polytechnic is a violation of due process and disregards previous warnings issued by ASUP since May 2025.
“The attention of the Union has been brought to the fixing of Council meetings outside the confines of the polytechnic. This conduct was first observed in May and the Union sent soft warnings, but the management seems to have lost all regard for rules and regulations,” the statement read in part.
ASUP also accused the current Governing Council of neglecting staff welfare and failing to respond to letters of concern from the union.
It expressed disappointment in former union leaders, Engr. Kamoru Kadiri and Engr. Waheed Balogun, now members of the Council, for allegedly failing to uphold the union’s values.
“The Registrar, who is supposed to interpret institutional rules, has also compromised his position for personal gains. No wonder Federal Polytechnic Offa has now become a shadow of itself,” the union alleged.
The union is demanding a formal apology to the Polytechnic community from the Council, warning that continued disregard for staff concerns may trigger an industrial crisis.
“We will not fold our arms and watch our place of work deteriorate,” the union declared.
As of press time, the Governing Council has not responded to the union’s demands.
