Three suspected kidnappers have been apprehended in connection with the abduction of Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.

According to reports, police detectives arrested the suspects in a forest near Ago Panu village, located between Oba Akoko and Owo, while allegedly sharing the N7 million ransom paid by the victim’s family and the university’s alumni.

The victim was rescued after police tracked one of the mobile phones used by the kidnappers during ransom negotiations.

Mr. Eleyinmi was abducted a week ago at his residence along Akungba-Supare Akoko road. During the attack, his wife narrowly escaped harm amid gunfire exchanged at their home.

It was gathered that the victim was captured after he unknowingly walked into the kidnappers’ ambush upon arriving at his house on a motorcycle.

The kidnappers reportedly fired sporadic gunshots to intimidate neighbours before fleeing with their captive.

Confirming the arrests, police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka stated, “Our operatives have arrested three suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of two AAUA lecturers. They are currently being profiled and interrogated.”

When asked about reports that the suspects were caught dividing the ransom money, the police spokesperson said he was not aware of such details.
