Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi will miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and South Africa in September due to a hamstring injury.

Ajayi sustained the injury during Hull City’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Coventry City last weekend. He had already been rested for Hull’s Carabao Cup defeat at Wrexham United as a precaution.

Scans have revealed further damage, and the 31-year-old is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

Ajayi, who struggled with hamstring injuries last season, made just 15 appearances during his final campaign with West Bromwich Albion.

Nigeria is set to host Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 6, before facing South Africa three days later at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
