Super eagles soar into AFCON 2025 Round of 16
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have booked a place in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Tunisia in Morocco today.
Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman secured the crucial win, allowing Nigeria to qualify from their group with confidence.
Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, heading home a well-delivered cross from Lookman just before halftime. Captain Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s advantage five minutes after the restart, once again benefiting from Lookman’s creativity.
Lookman later got his name on the scoresheet in the 70th minute, finishing a fine assist from Osimhen to make it 3–0.
Tunisia mounted a late comeback attempt as Talbi pulled one back in the 74th minute, while Abdi converted a penalty in the 87th minute after a handball by Bright Osayi-Samuel. However, the rally came too late to deny Nigeria the victory.
The Super Eagles will now face Uganda in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at 5 p.m., as they continue their quest for continental glory at AFCON 2025.
