Sujimoto boss reacts after EFCC declared him wanted
The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, Dr. Sijibomi Ogundele, has reacted to being declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a video released online, Ogundele described the situation as a case of a business deal gone sour, insisting that he is neither a thief nor a fugitive. He vowed to appear before the anti-graft agency to clear his name.
“I’m not a thief, I’m not a fugitive. This is a contract between my company and the Enugu State Government. They asked me to help them build a couple of projects which was very interesting, and I was going to the state every week,” he said.
According to him, complications arose midway into the project after the state government expressed interest in building a new city, including a proposed 69-storey skyscraper, which was to be the tallest building in Nigeria.
Ogundele claimed that the escalation of construction costs over the past five years caused significant delays and strained the agreement. “Something I could have done in two years was delayed. Now they declared me wanted, and they destroyed the company I built. But I will go to the EFCC office to clear my name,” he added.
His comments come after the EFCC, in a notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, declared him wanted on Friday.
The notice, shared on the Commission’s official X handle, urged members of the public with useful information to report to the nearest EFCC office or security agency.
“The public is hereby notified that Olasijibomi Ogundele of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an alleged case of diversion of funds and money laundering,” the statement read.
The EFCC described the businessman as a 44-year-old indigene of Ori-Ade Local Government Area in Osun State, with his last known address listed as Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Although the anti-graft agency did not disclose the specific amount allegedly misappropriated, the declaration confirms that Ogundele is currently under investigation for financial crimes.
