Soludo moves into newly completed Anambra Government House
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially taken residence in the newly constructed Government House, codenamed Light House Awka, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructural development.
Speaking on Saturday during a rally in support of his second-term bid organized by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Anambra Central Senatorial District, Soludo revealed that he moved into the new facility on Friday, spending his first night there.
“I have officially moved into the Anambra Light House City,” the governor announced. “I slept there last night and woke up this morning, then strolled to this venue.”
The expansive Government House complex, described as the finest in Nigeria, comprises over 36 buildings, including residences for the governor, deputy governor, and staff lodges. Some observers have likened it to Abuja’s Aso Rock Villa, while former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, called it a mini-city.
Commissioned recently by President Bola Tinubu, the new facility ends nearly three decades of makeshift government operations in the state. Since its creation, Anambra had operated with the Government House in Awka, while the governor resided in Amawbia.
The project, initiated over 20 years ago during the administration of the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, was shelved by successive governors, including Chris Ngige, Peter Obi, and Willie Obiano. Soludo revived and completed the long-abandoned project, earning praise for what many see as a major accomplishment of his administration.
