Soldier allegedly k!lls Amotekun officer in Osun

A Nigerian Army soldier has been accused of fatally attacking an operative of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, in what authorities have described as an unprovoked assault.
The victim, 35-year-old Peter Samuel, was reportedly ambushed and severely beaten in Ijeda, Oriade Local Government Area, on Saturday evening. He later died from his injuries in the early hours of Sunday at Wesley Hospital, Ilesa.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of Amotekun in Osun, Yusuf Idowu, the State Commandant, Adekunle Omoyele, identified the assailant as one Fiyinoluwa, a newly recruited soldier who allegedly harbored hostility toward the local security outfit.
Omoyele revealed that the soldier, dressed in military camouflage, had earlier approached the Amotekun station in Ijebu-Jesa and declared his intention to “deal decisively” with its operatives. The incident escalated when the soldier and unidentified accomplices reportedly intercepted Officer Peter Samuel while he was riding a motorcycle.
“They struck him on the head with a blunt object and launched a prolonged assault that lasted nearly 20 minutes,” the statement said. “The attackers fled the scene afterward, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.”
Amotekun personnel quickly responded to the scene, rushed the injured officer to the hospital, and reported the matter to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Jesa. The Engineering Cantonment in Ede, under Lt. Col. Yunusa Isyaku, was also notified.
Despite medical efforts, Samuel was pronounced dead early Sunday.
Omoyele added that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details of the attack and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
