Shettima departs for Ethiopia to represent Nigeria at UN summit

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent Nigeria at the second United Nations Food Systems Summit, holding from July 27 to 29, 2025.
Shettima will join global leaders at the high-level event to discuss the transformation of the coffee value chain and participate in roundtables and meetings focused on strengthening Nigeria’s food security efforts.
The summit, a follow-up to the inaugural 2021 edition, aims to accelerate global commitments toward building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems. It will also feature side events showcasing real-world success stories, promoting knowledge exchange, and encouraging evidence-based collective action.
Among these is a ministerial roundtable on public finance, trade, and responsible investment, alongside field trips and networking sessions.
At a recent briefing by Nigeria’s Task Force on the summit, Shettima outlined three key goals for the country’s delegation: positioning Nigeria as a thought leader on African food systems reform, forging international partnerships that align with national priorities, and promoting a private sector-led approach to transforming food systems across the continent.
The summit is jointly organized by the United Nations in collaboration with the governments of Ethiopia and Italy.
The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria following the conclusion of summit activities.
