Shatta Wale: Ghanaian musician detained over tax investigation

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has been taken into custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a tax investigation, his management confirmed.
The detention follows the seizure of his yellow Lamborghini, which US authorities claim is linked to a fraud network run by Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving a seven-year sentence in the United States for defrauding several organisations. Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah, voluntarily reported to EOCO on Wednesday.
His management stressed that the case concerns only tax obligations and denied any connection to Amuah, describing Wale as unaware of the car’s shipment to Ghana. The $150,000 vehicle is expected to be returned to the US to compensate fraud victims.
Shatta Wale, who gained international recognition through his collaboration with Beyoncé on the 2019 hit Already, remains under investigation, while his legal team works with authorities.
The case is part of an ongoing Ghana-US operation targeting international fraud networks.
