Senator Tony Nwoye appoints Justina Azuka as aide after election loss
Less than 24 hours after losing her bid to replace her late husband in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Justina Azuka has been appointed as a legislative aide by Senator Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District.
Azuka, who contested the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was named Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to the senator.
She had vied for the seat previously held by her husband, Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and killed.
In the by-election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Mimih Ifeoma Azikiwe, winner, while Azuka finished second.
Sources revealed that her candidacy was originally intended to provide support for her and her three children after her husband’s death.
Following her defeat, Senator Nwoye moved swiftly to appoint her, a gesture that has drawn praise across Anambra.
Confirming the development, Nwoye said he made the appointment to assist the widow. The role comes with a monthly salary of N200,000, which many believe will help cushion the impact of her loss and support her family.
Commenting on the appointment, an Anambra indigene, Mr. Peter Mmeagana, lauded Nwoye’s compassion. “What Tony Nwoye has done is the empathy which many politicians in Nigeria lack. At least with what she has now, she can keep her family,” he said.
