Release Uguamaye’s discharge certificate or face massive protest – Sowore tells NYSC

Rita Uguamaye
Omoyele Sowore, activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, has condemned the recent seizure of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate belonging to Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye.
Sowore who claimed to have a instagram live session with Rita, described the withdrawal of her discharge certificate as a retaliatory move in response to her vocal criticism of policies under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Sowore issued a strong ultimatum, warning that if the NYSC does not release Raye’s discharge certificate by the close of business on Monday, activists aligned with the #RevolutionNow movement will mobilize to occupy NYSC offices across the country in protest.
“We will occupy NYSC offices nationwide if the National Youth Service Corps does not release Youth Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye’s discharge certificate by the end of business on Monday,” Sowore declared, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and the growing unrest among activists.
Earlier, NYSC dismissed claims that it withheld the discharge certificate of Raye in retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government.
It however, explained that Raye was among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld for “valid disciplinary reasons,” stating that her service year had been extended by two months for failing to attend the April 2025 biometrics clearance.
