PSG clinch UEFA Super Cup after thrilling comeback against Tottenham

Paris Saint-Germain secured their first-ever UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties following a dramatic 2-2 draw at Udine’s Stadio Friuli.

Tottenham looked on course for victory under new coach Thomas Frank, taking a 2-0 lead shortly after half-time. Micky van de Ven opened the scoring in the 39th minute, and Cristian Romero added a second just three minutes into the second half.

PSG fought back late in the match, with substitutes Lee Kang-in scoring in the 85th minute and Gonçalo Ramos heading in the equaliser deep into stoppage time to force a penalty shootout.

The shootout began poorly for PSG as Vitinha missed their first attempt.

However, goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a crucial save against Van de Ven, while Mathys Tel also failed to convert. Nuno Mendes stepped up to score the decisive penalty, clinching victory for PSG.

Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Lee had earlier converted for PSG, while Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pedro Porro scored for Spurs.

This triumph marks PSG’s first UEFA Super Cup and the fifth trophy of 2025, providing a perfect start to the new season under Luis Enrique. The Parisians now prepare for their Ligue 1 opener against Nantes on Sunday, while Tottenham turn their focus to facing Burnley in the Premier League opener on Saturday.
