PRP condemns PDP’s call for foreign intervention in party’s affair
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly criticized comments credited to the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), in which he reportedly urged former U.S. President Donald Trump and other advanced democracies to intervene in Nigeria’s political situation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, PRP National Chairman, Falalu Bello (OFR), described Turaki’s remarks as reckless, dangerous, and deeply unpatriotic, insisting that such appeals display an “alarming inferiority complex” among some political leaders. He noted that calling for foreign intervention undermines confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and insults the nation’s sovereignty and dignity.
The PRP maintained that Nigeria, as a sovereign republic with clearly defined territories and independent governance structures, must resolve its internal challenges through dialogue, democratic processes, and patriotic leadership rather than external influence. It warned that foreign powers often act in their own interests, which may be detrimental to Nigeria’s stability and progress.
Reaffirming its ideological stance, the party referenced its Fifth Principle, which advocates total liberation from imperialism and promotes self-determination.
According to the PRP, true independence can only be achieved when Nigerians take full responsibility for shaping the country’s political and economic future.
The party called on Turaki and the PDP to retract what it described as an “incendiary and misguided” statement, urging all political leaders to protect the nation’s dignity and refrain from inviting foreign actors into Nigeria’s internal affairs.
The PRP further stressed that any attempt to justify foreign interference under the guise of defending democracy constitutes a betrayal of national unity and progress. It emphasized that Nigeria’s future must be determined solely by its citizens.
“Let it be clear: Nigeria’s destiny is in the hands of its resilient people,” the party insisted, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty.
