Prominent Yoruba monarch passes away

The Alara of Aramoko Ekiti in Ekiti State, Oba Olu Adegoke Adeyemi, has passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the monarch’s family confirmed that he died on Friday, describing him as a symbol of “remarkable leadership, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people.”

Born on December 4, 1942, Oba Adeyemi began his career as a teacher before rising to the rank of senior civil servant.

He also served as Sole Administrator of the defunct Ifesowapo Local Government.

He ascended the throne of his forefathers in 2009 and went on to distinguish himself as Chancellor of Ekiti State University, where he championed initiatives to raise educational standards and expand opportunities for local students.

During his reign, the revered traditional ruler was credited with fostering unity, promoting youth empowerment, driving community development, preserving cultural heritage, and resolving disputes.

The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
