Why Bosun Tijani should be removed as minister – Polytechnic students

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has demanded the immediate sack of Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, over alleged poor performance and policy failures.

In a statement signed by its Senate President, Sen. Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, and Senate Clerk, Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim, the association accused Tijani of failing to protect citizens’ data, mismanaging the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, and distancing himself from the youth community.

NAPS alleged that Nigerians’ personal information, including NIN, BVN, passports and driver’s licences, were exposed and traded online under his watch.

It also faulted the 3MTT initiative, noting high dropout rates and delayed payments to training partners, with only 400 of 1,400 participants completing the first cohort in Katsina State.

The students said they had lost confidence in Tijani’s leadership and vowed to embark on what they described as the “mother of all protests” across the country until the Federal Government replaces him with someone capable of driving digital transformation.

While stressing that protest is not their preferred option, NAPS maintained that it would not remain silent while the nation’s digital economy is “mismanaged.”

The body, however, expressed willingness to engage in dialogue if government initiates meaningful discussions.

As at the time of filing this report, the Minister has yet to speak on the development.
