Plateau United goalkeeper suspended over betting allegations

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has suspended Plateau United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka for alleged involvement in betting.
In a letter to the player and his club, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi said Adeyinka’s registration has been frozen pending an investigation.
The action follows claims by Plateau United that the goalkeeper rejected a transfer after learning of a clause allowing his contract to be terminated if found guilty of betting.
League rules prohibit players from engaging in any form of betting, with offenders facing disciplinary sanctions. Adeyinka will be given the chance to defend himself during the probe.
