Peter Obi’s son, Oseloka speaks on viral homosexuality allegations
Oseloka Obi, son of the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to viral social media allegations linking him to homosexuality, dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated fabrications.
The controversy erupted after photographs of Oseloka with London-based British-Nigerian, Kent Okwesa, surfaced online on Wednesday.
The pictures, taken at a restaurant in the United Kingdom, showed both men sitting closely together, sparking a wave of speculation and insinuations across social media platforms.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday, Oseloka described the allegations as “malicious falsehoods” rooted in the political curiosity and obsession surrounding his father.
He noted that such rumors were not new, but had intensified due to Peter Obi’s growing influence in Nigerian politics.
“Because of my father’s involvement in Nigerian politics, there has been a persistent curiosity and, at times, malicious obsession with me,” Oseloka said. “I have no social media presence and no interest in maintaining one, so I rarely correct these falsehoods. But perhaps it is time I address them.”
He stressed that the photographs in circulation were ordinary snapshots taken with friends and colleagues but were being twisted to serve a false narrative.
“The truth is simple: Peter Obi’s son appears in photos with his friends and colleagues, nothing more. If people wish to invent otherwise, I hope they sleep soundly knowing they are spreading lies,” he stated.
Oseloka further emphasized that neither he nor his father claimed perfection but maintained that his father had consistently demonstrated integrity, commitment, and vision for Nigeria’s future.
He insisted that the family would not be distracted by smear campaigns aimed at tarnishing their reputation.
“My father has my vote, not because he is my father, but because he is the right man for the job. If others wish to go low, invent scandals, or attack me to wound him, they are free to do so. But we will go high, and we will continue to focus on the future of Nigeria,” he added.
Beyond addressing the personal attacks, Oseloka advised Nigerians to shift their focus from idle gossip to pressing socio-economic challenges confronting the nation, such as unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship.
His reaction comes amid a growing trend of political families in Nigeria facing targeted online campaigns, with personal lives often dragged into the public arena as tools of political warfare. For Oseloka, however, the strategy is clear: ignore distractions and reinforce support for his father’s vision of a better Nigeria.
