Peter Obi set to return to PDP

Former Borno State governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, is on the verge of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 to contest the presidential election under the Labour Party, is currently part of a growing coalition of opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The coalition had recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the next general election.

However, internal power struggles within the alliance—especially the ambitions of key figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi—have fueled speculations that Obi might leave the group.

Speaking on Channels Television on Monday, Modu Sheriff dismissed the relevance of the ADC and asserted that Obi is preparing to return to the PDP.

“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down,” he said.
“The information available to me is that at any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”

Sheriff also maintained that the APC, with its existing political structure, will retain power in the 2027 elections.
