Perform or quit! – Ondo Govt threatens health workers
The Ondo State Government has warned primary health workers across the 18 local government areas of the state against poor performance, saying their continued stay in office will henceforth depend on their output.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, gave the warning today while addressing primary healthcare directors from the local government areas.
Akanbiemu expressed displeasure over the low performance of some key health indicators, particularly in the area of immunisation. He urged the health workers to take their duties more seriously or risk replacement.
“Primary health workers have no excuse to perform below expectation, considering Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration’s huge investment in the primary health sub-sector,” he said. “Henceforth, performance will determine their continued stay in office.”
He noted that the government had approved the recruitment of more doctors and health workers to improve service delivery, while several projects were currently being executed to strengthen the healthcare system.
Akanbiemu also directed health workers to embark on community outreaches and sensitisation campaigns to encourage more mothers to immunise their children, stressing that Ondo State had a reputation for excellence in immunisation coverage.
He assured that the agency was working to address the challenges faced by workers in rural and hard-to-reach areas to ensure effective service delivery at the grassroots.
While commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for the prompt release of funds to the agency, Akanbiemu urged health workers to justify the government’s investments through improved performance.
Also speaking, the State Director of Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr. Victor Adefesoye, charged local government coordinators to ensure 100 per cent success in all health indicators in their respective areas.
The warning comes shortly after the state government recruited 1,000 new health professionals who have since been deployed to various facilities across the state.
