Panic as tanker loaded with LPG summersaults in Ibadan

A tanker conveying 26 tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) overturned on Monday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred around the Sat Guru Maharaji area, a few minutes before the defunct toll plaza along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker swerved off the road, fell, and somersaulted.

 

Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said officers of the agency swiftly moved to the scene to avert a possible explosion.

In a statement on Tuesday, he explained: “Upon arrival, it was a Mack trailer tanker with registration number T25163LA, loaded with 26 tons of LPG, which swerved and fell on an open road. The officers quickly swung into action, engaging necessary equipment to calm the situation and prevent the tanker from exploding.

“No casualty was recorded and the tanker was saved. Normal vehicular movement has been restored.”

Authorities confirmed that as of Tuesday morning, normalcy had returned to the affected section of the expressway.
