Oyo traditionalists rename Makinde ‘Orisaseyi Omimakinde’

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has been given a new name — “Orisaseyi Omimakinde” — by traditional worshippers during the 2025 Isese Day celebration in Ibadan.

The event, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, on Wednesday, drew thousands of devotees clad in white attires and traditional regalia.

Isese Day, marked annually on August 20, is dedicated to honouring Yoruba deities (Orishas), performing rituals, and showcasing the people’s rich cultural heritage.

This year, worshippers used the occasion to appreciate Governor Makinde’s support for traditional religion and cultural preservation. In a symbolic gesture, they christened him “Orisaseyi Omimakinde,” meaning “the traditionalists’ oracle of prosperity.”

Prayers and libations were also offered to the Orishas for peace, unity, and prosperity in Oyo State.
