Oyo lawmaker denies involvement in Governor Makinde’s N300bn loan approval

Ibraheem Shittu, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Saki West constituency, has stated that he did not participate in the approval of a N300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement shared on his social media page on Wednesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker said the House was on a six-week recess when an emergency session was held to approve the loan.

“I want it to be on record that I, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, representing Saki West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, was not among the lawmakers who approved the N300 billion loan on 19th August 2025, finalized on 26th August 2025, during an emergency session held while the House was on recess,” he said.

Shittu noted that the House was officially on recess from July 31st to September 16th, 2025, and that the emergency session occurred without prior communication to all members.

The lawmaker also raised questions about the urgency and transparency of the loan approval, pointing out that Oyo State currently receives a significant increase in federal allocations (FAAC). “Why take this loan? Why was it considered an emergency? And why were all honourable members not informed?” he queried.

Shittu’s statement comes amid growing concerns over financial management and transparency in the state government’s borrowing practices.
