Oyo lawmaker Alao-Akala leads NASS delegation to parliamentarians’ conference in Peru

Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, member representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Orire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has led Nigeria’s delegation to the 11th Inter-Parliamentary Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Lima, Peru.

The conference, themed “Uniting Generations for Gender Equality,” brought together young lawmakers from across the globe to deliberate on ways to promote inclusivity and gender balance in governance.

In his remarks, Alao-Akala underscored the importance of international cooperation in advancing equality between men and women.

“It was a pleasure to meet the President of the Congress of Peru, José E. Jeri, alongside other visionary parliamentarians from across the world as we explored ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and advance gender equality,” he said.

The lawmaker highlighted the persistent underrepresentation of women in parliaments worldwide, noting that Nigeria is working to address the challenge through the Reserved Seats for Women Bill.

He described the bill as a “groundbreaking step toward ensuring gender balance in political representation.”
