Oyo Govt approves rehabilitation of Ojoo interchange, Ajia junction roads, others

The Oyo State Executive Council, led by Acting Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, has approved a series of multi-billion naira projects across the state, focusing on road infrastructure, sports development, and environmental initiatives.

Among the major approvals is the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 13.6-kilometre Ojoo Interchange–IITA–Moniya Junction–Akinyele Interchange, including spurs to the New Oyo Expressway in Ibadan.

The six-lane dual carriageway is valued at ₦63.6 billion and is scheduled for completion within 18 months.

The council also approved the 6.2-kilometre dualisation of the Ajia Junction (Ibadan-Ife Interchange)–Nigeria Air Force Base Road for ₦17.1 billion, as well as the 30-kilometre reconstruction of the Okaka Junction–Otu–Igbojaiye–KAP Film Village Road, which includes bridges over the Otu and Ofiki Rivers, at a cost of ₦26.4 billion.

Other projects include the completion and expansion of the 12-kilometre Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road, reconstruction of key roads in Eruwa, and maintenance works across Ibadan metropolis, including limited road patching, thermoplastic markings, and kerb painting.

The council also approved ₦110 million for the hosting and training of the under-20 female national football team in Ibadan ahead of their Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda. In addition, ₦108 million will be invested in planting economic trees along the 32-kilometre South-East Wing of the 110-kilometre Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road.

These approvals reflect the state government’s ongoing commitment to boosting infrastructure, promoting sports development, and enhancing environmental sustainability in Oyo State.
