Oyo Governor Makinde woos French Investors for industrialization, agricbusiness

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has intensified efforts to attract international investment into key sectors of the state’s economy, particularly agribusiness, logistics, and urban development.

The governor disclosed that on Thursday, August 28, 2025, when he led a delegation to Paris, France, where they held a strategic meeting with the Mouvement des entreprises de France (MEDEF), the country’s largest employer federation comprising more than 750,000 member firms across diverse industries.

During the meeting, Governor Makinde said discussions centered on Oyo State’s growing opportunities in sustainable cities development and industrial agriculture, areas where MEDEF signaled strong interest.

He explained that potential investments would target the Ijaiye Agribusiness Industrial Hub and the planned Rungis-style wholesale agrifood market to be sited within the hub.

Makinde further noted that the French business group expressed keen interest in airport cargo operations and agro-logistics, both of which are linked to the ongoing upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan into a full-fledged international airport.

“We assured MEDEF that Oyo State is fully prepared for international development cooperation and investment partnerships. Our administration is committed to providing the necessary support to ensure that interested investors can establish and thrive in our state,” the governor said.

He stressed that the initiative aligns with his government’s vision of positioning Oyo as a leading destination for agribusiness, trade, and innovation in Nigeria.
