Oyo Gov Makinde seeks Kenya partnership on trade, tourism, urban development

The Oyo State Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has initiated talks with the Kenyan Government to strengthen bilateral relations in areas of trade, tourism, aviation, and urban development.
While in Nairobi Tuesday, the Oyo State delegation led by the Governor paid a courtesy visit to Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Musalia W. Mudavadi, E.G.H. Discussions focused on collaborations between Oyo State and sub-national entities in Kenya, particularly in agro-logistics cargo systems, city regeneration, and other economic sectors.
During the meeting, Dr. Mudavadi assured the delegation that Kenya remains open to partnerships and business opportunities with Oyo State, expressing optimism about future engagements.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured Tatu City, a 5,000-acre mixed-use special economic zone near Nairobi, designed as a model for modern urban development. The tour, guided by Mr. Musyoka George, Senior Adviser to the Governor of Nairobi, offered insight into the city’s infrastructure, commercial hubs, and residential plans.
According to the Oyo State team, the Tatu City project aligns with the state’s new cities development agenda, offering practical examples for implementation back home.
The delegation also held a meeting with Mr. Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, CEO of M-PESA Africa, one of the continent’s leading fintech companies. Talks centred on potential partnerships to drive public sector digitalisation and enhance financial inclusion in Oyo State.
The Oyo State Government said it is committed to exploring these opportunities to boost economic growth, improve service delivery, and create jobs for residents.
Officials indicated that follow-up discussions will continue in the coming months to turn the talks into actionable agreements.
