Oyo engages UN-Habitat to drive sustainable urban development

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a strategic collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) to support urban regeneration and sustainable city development in the state.
The announcement followed a meeting held today in Nairobi, Kenya, between Governor Makinde and Anacláudia Marinheiro Centeno Rossbach, the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat, along with the agency’s team.
Governor Makinde highlighted that the partnership will focus on assisting Oyo State’s newly established New Towns and Cities Development Authority (NTCDA).
UN-Habitat is expected to provide expertise in policy formulation and implementation aimed at promoting sustainable urbanization.
The collaboration will also link Oyo State’s urban development initiatives with its ongoing agribusiness programs, supporting integrated economic growth across the state.
“This partnership with UN-Habitat marks an important milestone in our efforts to transform urban spaces and create new, sustainable cities in Oyo State,” Governor Makinde said.
The support from UN-Habitat is expected to help Oyo State develop comprehensive policies and practical solutions to meet the challenges of rapid urban growth while fostering economic opportunities.
