The Oyo State Government has approved ₦1 billion to compensate property owners affected by the Circular Road project in Ibadan, with ₦600 million already paid.

On Thursday, the fourth batch of ₦200 million was released at a ceremony at the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development in Ibadan, adding to the ₦400 million previously disbursed. Commissioner Akin Fumilayo assured that the full compensation would be completed soon, with beneficiaries receiving between ₦3 million and ₦5 million each.

The Circular Road corridor, initially acquired in 2006 and expanded in 2018, had experienced various encroachments. Governor Makinde directed that all affected property owners, including those with informal structures, be compensated.

Fumilayo cautioned beneficiaries to report any official soliciting bribes. Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade described the project as “ordained by God,” noting its origins date back to 2005 under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, after whom the road is named.

Beneficiaries’ representatives commended Governor Makinde for fulfilling his promises and showing compassion in governance.
