Oyo Assembly approves ₦299.8bn supplementary budget, raises 2025 total to ₦984bn
The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of ₦299.8 billion, effectively increasing the state’s total 2025 budget from ₦684.1 billion to ₦984 billion.
Chairman of the House Committee on Budget, Finance, and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola (Egbeda Constituency), announced the development on Thursday following the plenary session. He explained that the supplementary appropriation was necessary to address key financial demands not originally captured in the 2025 budget passed last year.
According to Babalola, the additional funding will cover critical areas including the reconstruction of the Government House, the payment of workers’ pensions, and allocations for the implementation of the proposed new national minimum wage.
“The reality of the state’s financial obligations in the current fiscal year required a reassessment,” Babalola said. “This supplementary appropriation reflects the dynamic nature of governance and the need to respond to emerging priorities.”
The House also declared the commencement of its annual working recess. During this period, lawmakers will embark on oversight visits across their constituencies to monitor state-funded projects and ensure alignment with the approved budgetary allocations.
Hon. Babalola emphasized that the revised budget would help reinforce infrastructure growth and enhance social welfare programs, particularly in light of the prevailing economic challenges and inflationary trends.
Governor Seyi Makinde had initially presented the original ₦684.1 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year in late 2024. That budget was passed into law before this latest increase.
