Osun traditional rulers move to resolve dispute between Speaker Egbedun, Oba Alasi

Traditional rulers in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State have begun efforts to mediate a dispute between the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and the Alasi of Asi, Oba Isaac Oyewale.

The President of the Odo-Otin Traditional Council and Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode, confirmed the intervention on Friday.

He said the council convened on Thursday to deliberate on the matter following reports of a heated exchange between the Speaker and the monarch.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a recorded phone conversation in which Speaker Egbedun allegedly issued threats to Oba Oyewale. The audio was said to have been captured by the monarch’s wife.

Oba Oyebode stated that no wrongdoing was established against the Speaker during the initial discussion. He added that the council resolved to summon the Alasi for a meeting to hear his side of the story. The Oloyan of Oyan and the Olokuku are to lead the inquiry.

“The Speaker has been supportive of our communities. We believe this matter can be resolved amicably,” Oba Oyebode said.

Also speaking, the Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Kilani Adekeye, affirmed that both parties had reached out to him. He expressed confidence that the traditional council would resolve the issue peacefully.

“The Speaker is a good man. I’ve spoken with both him and the Alasi. We are handling it as elders,” he said.

The council assured residents that peace and unity in the local government remain a top priority.
