Osun Speaker not suspended – Conference of Speakers refutes viral report

Osun Assembly Speaker, Hon Adewale Edun
Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has dismissed as false a report claiming that the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has been suspended.
In a statement on Thursday, Ogundoyin described the report, which surfaced on July 30, 2025, as baseless and fabricated, stating clearly that no such action was taken by the Conference.
“There was no press briefing in Ibadan or anywhere else announcing such a decision. I never authorized or made any such declaration,” he said.
Ogundoyin emphasized that Egbedun remains a fully recognized and active member of the Conference, and there are no disciplinary proceedings against him.
He called on the media outlet responsible for the publication to issue a public apology and retract the false story immediately, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action.
“The spread of misinformation is harmful to public trust and institutional credibility. Journalists must ensure accuracy before publishing,” Ogundoyin added.
