Osun APC primary: Omisore blows hot, reveals politician behind his disqualification

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has criticised his exclusion from the party’s Osun State governorship primary, calling the process biased and lacking transparency.

Omisore spoke in Abuja on Saturday after appearing before the APC Screening Appeal Panel.

He alleged that former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, influenced the screening to favour another aspirant, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The APC Screening Committee had disqualified Omisore and six others—Babatunde Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki and Senator Babajide Omoworare—over claims that they failed to provide the required nominators from each local government area as stipulated in the APC Constitution and guidelines.

Only Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Oyebamiji were cleared to contest the December 13 primary.

Omisore dismissed the committee’s claims, stating that none of the affected aspirants received any official notice explaining the alleged breaches. He also accused the screening panel of producing conflicting reports and submitting an altered version to the party leadership.

He questioned the committee’s assertion on nominators, arguing that the party already had full access to its membership register and should be able to verify any claims.

Omisore said the disqualification raised serious concerns about fairness within the Osun APC, describing the process as a “farce.” He expressed confidence that the National Working Committee would reconsider the decision.

He added that the affected aspirants went through the same process and should not be selectively disqualified, warning that the development reflects deeper divisions within the party.
