Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State staged a peaceful protest on Friday at the party’s secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, rejecting alleged plans to offer Governor Ademola Adeleke an automatic ticket to contest the 2026 governorship election under the APC.

The demonstrators, armed with placards, accused some party stakeholders of plotting to impose Adeleke without following due democratic process. They insisted that every aspirant, including the governor—if he defects to the APC—must go through the party’s primary election.

Speaking during the protest, APC youth leader Taofeek Afolabi stated that their agitation was not against Adeleke’s potential membership in the APC, but against any attempt to bypass the rules.

“We’re not saying Governor Adeleke shouldn’t join our party if he wishes, but he must go through the primaries like every other aspirant. There must be no automatic ticket,” he said.

Other members echoed Afolabi’s position, urging the party leadership to uphold transparency and fairness in its internal processes.

Reacting to the protest, a senior APC official, who preferred not to be named, said the protest was unexpected and warned that it could be misinterpreted as having official backing.

“The leadership wasn’t notified. This kind of action can send the wrong signal, suggesting that it was planned or supported by party executives,” the source said.

The protest was peaceful and ended without incident. As of the time of this report, the Osun APC leadership had not issued an official response to the development.
