Osun Amotekun nabs ex-convict, others for theft, burglary, rap£ of minors
The Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested nine individuals across the state for crimes ranging from livestock theft and burglary to the defilement of minors.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Corps Commander, Brig.-Gen. Isaac Omoyele (rtd), through the agency’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, on Thursday in Osogbo.
In Oriade Local Government Area, operatives apprehended a 56-year-old ex-convict, Ayo Akinpelu, who was caught stealing two goats in Ipetu-Ijesa. The animals were discovered hidden inside his Lexus SUV after residents raised suspicion.
Akinpelu later confessed that he had been involved in goat theft for more than seven years, using the animals for pepper soup sales at his beer parlour in Ondo State.
Similarly, in Olaoluwa Local Government Area, two men identified as 30-year-old Sodiq Adeshina and 25-year-old Kareem Marouf were arrested in Oluponna town for burgling an uncompleted building. They allegedly stole electrical appliances and cables valued at over ₦450,000 with the intention of reselling them in Iwo.
The Corps also arrested suspects over cases of sexual abuse.
Twenty-six-year-old Elijah Olawale of Ijebu-Ijesha was taken into custody after his wife reported that he defiled their nine-year-old daughter, an act he admitted to committing three years ago and again recently.
In Modakeke, 26-year-old labourer ThankGod Friday, from Akwa Ibom State, was accused of raping his employer’s 12-year-old daughter twice. Another suspect, 60-year-old Adeleke Sodiq from Ode-Omu, was caught defiling a six-year-old girl after luring her with money.
On September 8, Amotekun operatives in Ilesa also arrested three young men — 22-year-old Ayo Akanni, 18-year-old Bamiwo Sogo, and 18-year-old Bamiwo Israel — in connection with multiple burglaries at Atakunmosa Market. The suspects later led security operatives to a hideout where electronics, household items, building materials, and provisions worth millions of naira were recovered.
Reacting to the arrests, Commander Omoyele reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to safeguard lives and property across Osun State.
He urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies, stressing that criminals have no hiding place.
He added that all nine suspects remain in custody and will be arraigned once investigations are concluded.
