Osimhen’s penalty hands Galatasaray Champions League win over Liverpool
Victor Osimhen’s first-half penalty earned Galatasaray a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group stage match in Istanbul.
The Nigerian striker converted from the spot after Baris Alper Yilmaz was brought down by Dominik Szoboszlai. He later missed two chances to extend the lead, while Liverpool failed to capitalise on their possession.
Arne Slot’s men, beaten by Crystal Palace at the weekend, struggled to break down a determined Galatasaray side. Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak came off the bench in the second half but could not find a breakthrough.
Liverpool thought they had a late penalty for a foul on Ibrahima Konaté, only for VAR to overturn the decision.
The win is Galatasaray’s first in the Champions League group stage this season and a rare success after a poor run in Europe.
