Osimhen ruled out of Nigeria’s clash with South Africa

Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday eight fixture against South Africa, republican.com.ng reports

The Galatasaray forward picked up an injury during Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday. He was forced off in the first half and replaced by Cyriel Dessers.

Head coach Eric Chelle revealed after the match that Osimhen would undergo further assessment before the team’s trip to South Africa.

However, Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed on Sunday that the 26-year-old experienced discomfort in his chin and will not travel with the squad.

Osimhen is now expected to return to his club in Turkey for treatment.

Nigeria will face South Africa at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, on Tuesday.
